The inner-city site of the Rehfuss + Stocker textile factory is revitalised by its conversion into a student residence. The core of the ensemble is the refurbished five-storey factory building. Older buildings are replaced by a new three-storey volume. The characteristic design and structure of the factory building are retained and remain visible. A thermal insulation composite system and triple insulating glazing reduce heat losses to 50% of the values permitted by the Energy Saving Ordinance. Building services including wood pellet heating, solar thermal installations and a ventilation system with heat recovery minimise the primary energy demand.
