A vibrant and future-oriented urban district is taking shape on the Lagarde Campus in the eastern part of the Franconian city of Bamberg. Residential use is the main focus on sub-area 4, which covers 10,500 square metres. The urban design concept for the Lagarde 4 site features a meandering layout that links all the buildings into a cohesive whole. Three building are planned: the Stadtoase (urban oasis) with owner-occupied flats; Clusterwohnen (cluster living), offering mainly subsidised rental housing above ground-floor retail; and the Stadthäuser (townhouses), which combine flexible office spaces for start-ups and coworking on the ground floor with “house-in-house” residential concepts on the upper storeys.

The rooftops will provide green retreats with communal and private areas – featuring sun decks, urban planting beds and habitats for insects. The residential development, comprising around 120 units, is arranged around a semi-public courtyard. In total, some 9,500 square metres of residential space is planned, complemented by around 1,600 square metres of commercial space – including approximately 1,000 square metres for retail use. A municipal multi-storey car park with around 250 parking spaces is intended to serve the residents of this and neighbouring quarters.
