Siedlungswerk Stuttgart plans to redesign a site on Delpweg in Stuttgart’s Fasanenhof district. The goal is to create a new, high-quality and vibrant multi-generational residential neighbourhood, incorporating the redevelopment plans for the Sankt Ulrich church site, especially regarding the design of the open spaces.
The Fasanenhof district is characterised by a very heterogeneous development. Individual building plots, which are in themselves very homogeneous, are grouped together to form an overall ensemble. For us, this urban patchwork is the starting point for our design approach.
The identity of the new neighbourhood is unmistakably derived from the polygonal architectural language of the church. The new houses, nestled in an extensively greened open space, take a backseat to the church, recognizing its leading role in the urban context. The proposed permeable structure allows for visual connections (and thus orientation) to the church from all directions. The church square between the new “Platz am Delpweg” and the Europaplatz is optimally connected and easy to find.
