High-quality open spaces are a prerequisite for a vibrant urban neighbourhood. In the Rintheimer Feld project, closed block structures and open linear buildings blend together. The staggered arrangement of the buildings creates spatially enclosed, well-proportioned communal courtyards. All open spaces are interconnected, allowing for high permeability for pedestrians.

The central square and the boulevard form the entrance to the neighbourhood. At the same time, the boulevard connects the new buildings with the existing residential estate to the north. Adjacent to the central square, a commercially used base with shopping facilities defines the eastern boundary of the neighbourhood. Parking for customers is located to the east so that residents are not disturbed. This redesigned square provides a new impetus to the entire Rintheimer Feld neighbourhood.

The neighbourhood square to the northwest serves as the link between the new and existing buildings. As a “green centre”, it offers residents a space to play and relax. Resident’s parking spaces are provided in an underground garage, which is connected to the existing access ramp in the north. This ensures a high-quality car-free living environment and eliminates any disruptive motorised access via Forststrasse in the south.

Special project features:
The goal was to avoid using external insulation systems and their associated issues. Therefore, a formwork stone system with integrated insulation was used. The new buildings were connected to the existing district heating network.
