Bildungsakademie Tübingen (Academy of Education) is the central training and further education centre of the Reutlingen Chamber of Skilled Crafts for the industrial-technical sector. Increased requirements necessitated a redesign and extension. The existing building was both modernised and restructured. A new additional building accommodates new workshops, seminar and event rooms, and the existing boarding school building was replaced with a new one. The project was carried out while the academy remained operational, and it was completed on schedule in 2020.
The new Bildungsakademie now offers over 400 training places in a total of 19 workshops and four seminar rooms. As part of the modernisation, the existing buildings were also brought up to current fire safety standards and equipped with the latest appliances and technologies to provide market-oriented training. Additionally, the extension and new buildings created previously lacking workshops, office, and dormitory spaces to meet the increased demand for training opportunities.
The three-story new building, with a distinctive façade made of brick veneer, is located in the same spot as the previous boarding school building, which no longer met current fire safety requirements. Inside the boarding school, the ground floor houses the cafeteria, office spaces and a sports room. On the two upper floors, 53 overnight accommodations in 32 rooms are organised around an atrium. In the public areas, fair-faced concrete is used for the walls, and concrete floor tiles as flooring. The staircase is designed with a high-quality black lacquered steel stringer and a wooden handrail. Another notable feature is the exterior cladding of the window reveals with white mineral composite panels. The boarding school building can be expanded with an additional floor if needed.
Adjoining the existing buildings, the workshop extension is clad with trapezoidal sheet metal, creating a new inviting and spacious campus together with the boarding school.
Bildungsakademie Tübingen provides professional training for carpenters, metalworkers, automotive mechatronics technicians, sanitary, heating and air conditioning technicians, electronics technicians, precision mechanics, painters and varnishers, and hairdressers.
