Alexander Lange was born in 1962 in Ludwigsburg and grew up in Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan. In 1977, he received a scholarship from the Evangelical Regional Church Seminar Maulbronn/Blaubeuren. In 1985, he completed training as a carpenter and worked as a journeyman until 1988.
In 1988, Alexander Lange began his architectural studies at the University of Stuttgart, which he successfully completed in 1995. During his studies, he received a scholarship from the Carl Duisberg Society for the Sir JJ College of Architecture, Bombay, India. He earned his diploma in architecture and urban planning in San Francisco with Kathrine Moore, SOM (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill).
From 1997 onwards, Alexander Lange worked as a project manager at a+r Architekten before becoming a partner in 2010. In 2017, he was appointed to the Association of German Architects (BDA).
